Safe Child Policy

The Hartland Public Library encourages library services to patrons of all ages. Because the safety of minor children is of primary importance to the administration and staff of the library, the following policy has been adopted:

Children under age 8 may not be left unattended in any part of the library. “Unattended” means that a parent or designated guardian is not within sight of the child. Library staff cannot be expected to take responsibility for a minor child. A parent or legal guardian must be responsible for the child’s behavior while in the library. If a child is attending a library program, a parent or designated guardian must remain in the building to be accessible to the child.

The library reserves the right to contact parents, guardians or law enforcement authorities if minor children are left unattended, or if they are unable to maintain proper library behavior.
