FIRE SAFETY TIPS

  • Make sure everyone in your home knows how to dial 911 in case of a fire or emergency.
  • Test your smoke alarms monthly, change batteries as needed and replace alarms every 10 years.
  • Practice a home fire escape plan regularly with the entire family during the day and night.
  • Check the gauge on your fire extinguisher monthly to be sure that is is pressurized.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher within reach to help create a path to safety or put out a small, contained fire. Always call the fire department before you try to extinguish it yourself.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER CLASSIFICATIONS

Classifications symbols are located on each extinguisher and are used to identify the type of fire the unit can be used on. 

  • Class A Fires involve common combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, trash and plastics.
  • Class B Fires involve flammable liquids, solvents, oil, gasoline, paints, lacquers and other oil-based products.
  • Class C Fires involve energized electrical equipment such as wiring, controls, motors, machinery or appliances.

 Remember the phrase PASS!

Pull: Pull the pin
Aim:  Aim at the base of the fire
Squeeze: Squeeze the handle
Sweep: Sweep from side to side
